Lyrics
No sight of the man on the interstate
Spent a mess of time trucking on the road today
I got a one-way ticket babe the diesel down
And I’m blowing off some doors as I pass each town
As I pass each town, lord I pass each town
As I pass each town, laying that diesel down

If you’re gonna do it, do it right
Grab your little woman, treat her right

Like a shotgun kick, I move as fast I can
Yes that’s the signature style of a do right man
I know every action means the word to you
That’s why I’m driving so late to bring the goods to you
Bring the goods to you, Bring the goods to you
Bring the goods to you, Baby that’s just what I do

If you’re gonna do it, do it right
Grab your little woman, treat her right

Well it’s late at night and I need to know
Just what kind of love you’ve just got in store
I know outside its just a drizzling rain
So won’t you start a fire in the hearth again.
In the hearth again, lord in the hearth again
In the hearth again, Light a fire in the hearth again

If you’re gonna do it, do it right
Grab your little woman, treat her right

About the Song
Do It Right is a sonic love letter from distant roads to our loved ones stoking the fire back home. Many of us need to travel for work to make ends meet for the family. The traveling Ram knows that high-end hotels will always pale in comparison to the love that's in store back home.

The first time I wrote and performed this song was in 2006, to my newborn son Ronan, so I dedicate it to him, my pops Buzzy, and the women in my life. Love and Respect to my grandmothers, aunts, mothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, and daughters. You are perpetually in my thoughts, guiding my path through life, and teaching me how to love unconditionally.

The official single was the first take of our Carlsbad, California home studio live session recorded in early 2022. We played the song two times back to back. The alt-take was the second take where we stretched our legs a bit and explored some ideas while jamming the song out. Our normal tracking workflow leaves the drums & bass untouched, then we sparingly overdub the rest to achieve a sound true to our live performances. No click tracks were used, no quantization, just a legendary local drummer, Mike Hunt whom I played with for years. Local San Diego musician and engineer, Mike Butler took care of the mixing and mastering.

About the Day
Days rarely get any better than these. It was a fine June Saturday in Carlsbad, California and it was a perfect way to say goodby to family, friends, and the band. In a few days I would be gone: flying off to Greece for the remainder of the month, then coming back stateside for a family reunion in Upstate New York.

My oldest just graduated Carlsbad High, kids were out in numbers, the summer was in full effect. Everyone was out in full force. To meet the crowd, we had a bunch of new material. We played 4 songs that we had never really played as arranged that night before, but we were feeling it. We had just finished programming the new Nord Stage 4 we picked up of the keyboard player, Mike Pritchard. Thus the reason why the keys sound like an interstellar spaceship.
